      Wikimedia Commons gives a description of this photo: The March of Death. Along the March [on which] these prisoners were photographed, they have their hands tied behind their backs. The March of Death was about May 1942, from Bataan to Cabanatuan, the prison camp.

      The march is best known as the Bataan Death March. In occurred in April 1942 with the surrender of the troops on the Bataan penninsula.
      Their hands were not tied behind their backs although the two in front look like they are. They were forced marched to an old Philippino army camp called O'Donnell known as the Andersonville of the Pacific. It was closed down around July of 42 and the remaining inmates were then moved to Cabanatuan.
